About Us

Welcome to Paws-itive Pet Sitting Service.  We are new to the business (October 2007) but our love of animals has been life-long!

We are Rick and Sheila Ford.  We are both from New Jersey but now reside in Shiloh, Illinois, thanks to the military.  We have both owned cats and dogs all our lives and currently have one Yellow Lab-Retriever mix named Blondie.  She turned 12 years old on Jun 29 and I think she owns us!

Our interest in pet sitting/pet care started in 2005 when we took a trip to Florida.  We didn’t want to kennel our dogs (we had a male Wiemereiner-Lab mix named Dylan, who passed of cancer in 2006) because they were always unhappy with the experience and came home smelling “like a kennel”.  They just plain old weren't happy in a kennel! We hired a friend who was a pet sitter and had an absolutely positive experience.  Not only were our dogs happy to be in their own home, but our “dog alarm” was still set!  Our house was safe and our dogs were happy.

After moving to Illinois at the end of 2006, we decided it would be more rewarding to do something we enjoy and believe in, thus, the beginning of our pet sitting/pet care service.  We believe in only the best care for our Blondie and believe that other pet owners feel the same way about their four-legged "children".  If we can provide you peace-of-mind for your pets, whether it be a daily visit while you're at work or away on vacation, then we have fulfilled our goal.

Sheila has served in the US Air Force for 20+ years as an aircraft avionics technician, and is still on active duty.  She recently completed her BS in Information Technology and will be starting her MBA in the summer of 2009, through online learning at Saint Leo University in Florida.  She was raised with German Shephards and Siamese cats but over the years prefers to adopt mixed breeds.

Rick is a "jack-of-all trades", having followed Sheila in the Air Force for the past 20+ years.  Because of a car accident, he is "disabled" due to herniated/bulging disks in his back.  Pet sitting is a perfect new career for him and it shows in his compassion for animals.  Rick grew up with cats and Poodles, but like Sheila, likes the varieties of animals found in shelters, usually mixed.

We hope you will find the service we provide you and your beloved pet(s) as rewarding as it is to provide it for you!
